Took 1000-1500 mg for a couple months for a mild but persistant acne problem. Worked great. Then I got a rash that turned out to be shingles -- a painful rash caused by revival of the normally dormant virus that causes chicken pox. Another poster on this Board encountered shingles. I quote:
My wife took it for two weeks and got a bad case of water retention and insomnia. I took it for two weeks with similar results and worse. I got a bad rash which turned out to be shingles. I am allergic to sulfa drugs but most webs say sulfer is different. Whether msm brought this virus out, I don't know, but I guarantee you I won't take it again. R. Smith
I'm not sure if this is just coincidence but I am suspicious as MSM does mess with one's immune system. Also some sites recommend using msm for treating shingles. So I'm somewhat confused. I may just stop until the shingles clears & only take for acne outbreaks. Any thoughts?
