Glucosamine cutting oil?

The Live Blood Study (Patrick McGean?) writes on 1/27/05 in laura's "MSM and sleep" thread:

"Why would anyone want to switch to glucosamine which cuts cartilage like cutting oil enables a machinist to cut steel."

and later writes in the same post:

"The reference to increased "snot" production in the mucous membranes with Chondroiton and Glucosamine of the joints is hidden in a failed hard drive, but extended studies will show an increased need for surgury especially for those with "bad knees.""

Gucosamine cutting oil? Increased need for surgery?

After reading these statements I looked harder at the glucosamine material I could find but the several research based references that turn up for me consistently indicate utterly contrary conclusions. Amazingly, even sources that are downright unfriendly to many common supplements like the Lancet, Archives of Internal Medicine, and Journal of the AMA support the therapeutic value of glucosamine regarding pain management, joint separation, and-or cartilage regeneration.

Can someone reconcile these divergent positions? TLBS?
