Unfortunately, it's a little more than mind over matter when it comes to a severe detox--it can make you feel worse than you have EVER felt in your entire life and can put you out of commission for one to three days, which would not be good in your situation. You may want to start on a Thursday so that the detox would most likely hit on a Saturday if it were going to happen.
MSM in water is somewhat similar to unsweetened iced tea, so if you like that, you can probably tolerate the MSM taste in a full glass of water. Otherwise, use a smaller amount of water and just chug it fast with something ready to eat to get the taste out of your mouth.
Drink LOTS of water when starting on MSM to minimize the detox. I would still recommend no more than a half teaspoon a day to start until you see if you will go through a detox. After a week you can increase by another half teaspoon (and each week after that). Detox can happen at any time you increase or even every time you increase. But those with the worst detox episodes, seem to derive the most benefit from MSM. If you have food sensitivities, take the MSM with full meals, preferably at the beginning.
: I decided to stop taking my meds last May due to the side effects and the way they made me feel and the knowledge that I was suppressing my immune system as a cure (highest doses of both Enbrel and methotrexate), in spite of the fact that the pain was gone (at what cost in the future.)
: At the time I was advised to take 10-12k mg per day of MSM. I realize now that this was useless as I was taking the meds too.
: After five months off the meds, the pain is returning rapidly as of this week. I've decided to try MSM alone. I have an 18mo old daughter that I take care of 24x7 and need to be at my best. No time for slow starts if it is safe. How should I begin? Amounts, schedule, method?
: Also, Is the taste paletable to mix MSM in water (presumming you'd recommend powder due to high dosage?) I have discovered some food allergies exacerbate the rheumatoid arthritis, so dairy, citrus and anything with wheat or sugar is out for mixing with the MSM.
: I've read many of the posts here and feel I can survive the detox effects if they indicate I am on the journey to well-being, ie., mind over matter.
