  • Cholesterol Control

As you may recall from a previous newsletter, my dad had a really bad reaction to the statin drugs that the doctor put him on to control his cholesterol. It very nearly disabled him and nearly put him in a wheelchair. I'm glad to say that he has almost fully recovered and is being weened off of the prednisone that helped reverse the effect that the statin drug had on him.

Fortunately the doctor was also open to try other more natural methods of cholesterol control once he realized that drugs were not the way to go with my dad. So he has him on niacin and red yeast rice and after the first couple of checks is quite pleased with the progress that these two supplements have produced.

So if you are wary about using statin drugs (as well you should be), you may want to try these more natural alternatives. And if you are on statin drugs, mark the warning to get off of them immediately if you feel any unexplained muscle stiffness or soreness, as it can get quite severe like it did with my dad. And also remember that statin drugs can have other side-effects as well even after using them for quite a while--things like Neuropathy, Heart Failure, Dizziness, Cognitive Impairment, Cancer, Pancreatic Rot, and Depression. So be careful.

Even More Thoughts About the Swine Flu or H1N1

I continue to see all of the hype on the news shows about gearing up for the dreaded flu season this year and I have to chuckle to myself--until I realize that there are an awful lot of people buying this propaganda. Let me share my thoughts as I also sort of "follow the money".

The drug and vaccine companies desperately wanted a pandemic where they could make millions of dollars, and thought they finally had found one in this virus. They had us all worked up to fever pitch in the spring and geared up to make millions of doses of flu vaccine investing a lot of money in doing so.

The only problem is that summer came along and cut into the flu season, and everyone had time to see that this was largely a fairly ordinary flu bug, that yes, can kill thousands of people just as the flu does every single year. But was not nearly the "death-bug" that they had built it up to be. Winter has come and is on its way out for the Southern Hemisphere without the flu killing the thousands of people predicted.

So now here we are with the drug companies having millions of doses of experimental flu vaccine ready to go, and very little demand for it. So now it's time to get the news people talking about gearing up for mass vaccinations and building up the hype to have people clamoring for their dose of it. After all, we can't let all of these millions of doses go to waste, can we?

All of this to say, when watching all of this take place, take a step back and just think of the money involved and the millions to be lost if none of us wants the vaccine. And then realize that these people are not going to take this lying down--they are going to do everything they can to stir the pot and get everyone excited again. After all, nearly every other commercial on any given national news show is from a drug company, so it's no surprise that the news shows want to help them succeed so they can keep getting paid for these ads. Just sit back and follow the money, and realize that you don't have to fall for it or play their game.

But the saddest part to all of this? I'm still guessing that the vaccine will hurt far more people than the virus ever will.

    Immune System Update and Reminder

As some of you may remember, a little over a year ago we were dealing with a weakness in our immune systems for a couple of us in our family. We had asked for input from you and got several good suggestions. But the thing that seemed to do the trick for us came from our naturopathic doctor who did some tests and determined that there was a deficiency in zinc. Since then we have also seen the importance of getting enough Vitamin D. Between these two along with our normal regimen, our immune systems have returned to normal.

As a guideline for you, we now get about 30 to 40 mg of zinc a day and 800 to 1200 IU of Vitamin D per day. We highly recommend making sure you work these into your daily routine based on our results, especially as winter approaches and the flu season picks up.
