I have been following a relatively low carbohydrate diet now for several years. Initially I had lost over 50 pounds and had gotten down to a reasonable weight. I am up just about 15 pounds from my low due to some setbacks in my exercise regimen due to injury. But I am maintaining fairly well and feel pretty healthy.
But more recently I have been experiencing heart palpitations where at rest, my heart seems to beat very slow but very strongly with each beat. A little research showed that this is common on low-carb diets and for those that are fairly athletic from exercise. And it seems to be largely due to a combination of a low resting heart rate and a deficiency of some minerals including potassium and magnesium.
So I have recently added glucosamine sulfate 2KCL (the K is potassium) and magnesium citrate to my supplement regimen of MSM, Ultra-Man Multivitamin, and Vitamin D 5000. It has only been less than a week and I am already feeling less of the palpitation episodes and less strongly when they do occur. I anticipate that they will continue to lessen until they disappear as I gradually get my minerals balanced again.
All of this to say that I know what a struggle it is to find a diet that works for you, and still get the nutrition you need. Fortunately there is a lot of information available out there from those who have traveled the road ahead of you. I hope my experience is helpful to those of you fighting the same battle.
